Replacing the contents of a cell in Excel 2007

To replace the contents of a cell, click the cell and start typing the data.

Things to know:
  • If formatting was already applied to the cell then the newly entered data will have the same formatting. To clear the formats, on the Home tab, in the Editing group, click Clear and finally click Clear Formats
  • Once you finish entering the data, press ENTER or TAB or any arrow (UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT) key to accept the new data. Pressing the Esc key will keep the old data.
  • You can also copy and paste or drag data from other cell to replace the content.
  • If text is entered then it will be left- aligned by default provided that no formatting was applied to the old content.
  • If number, date, or time is entered then it will be right-aligned by default provided that no formatting was applied to the old content.
